A truck driver from UP, angered over being harassed and assaulted by three drunk men at a truck yard in Chennai’s Red Hills, mowed them down with his truck. Two men died, and the other, who was seriously injured, has been admitted to the hospital.
A truck driver from Uttar Pradesh killed two men in Chennai by running them over. A third person was critically injured. The truck driver was allegedly harassed by the three drunk men, who had demanded money. The incident occurred in a private truck parking yard in Chennai’s Red Hills.
A police probe revealed that the dead men, Kumaran (36) and Kamala Kannan (35), along with the injured Naveen (25), were drinking alcohol at the truck yard in Red Hills.
A report by the Times of India said that at around 7.30 pm, Kanhaiya Singh (35) and Krish Kumar (26) were cooking dinner. The three men began harassing them around this time.
They grabbed the rotis made by the drivers and ordered Kanhaiya Singh to hand over the cash he had. When the truck driver refused, the three men began to create a ruckus. They smashed the headlights of the truck, which led to a scuffle.
Police said that the three men beat up the truck drivers. The truckers left the yard and returned an hour later. They found that the three men were consuming alcohol behind the truck.
“One of the deceased men, Kumaran, said that the three of them wouldn’t leave until Kanhaiya paid them money. After pleading with them for a while, an angry Kanhaiya boarded the truck and ran them over,” said a senior police officer.
Kumaran died on the spot and Kamala Kannan died in the hospital due to a severe head injury. Naveen, who is seriously injured, had been admitted to the Stanley Medical College Hospital, said the police.
