While many of the restrictions are still in place in most of the country, 12 states and two Union Territories have taken initial steps in easing the virus curbs.
The daily case at 1.52 lakhs reported on May 30 was the lowest since April 9 and the daily death figure at 3,128 was the lowest since April 26. The rate of transmission, of which positivity is a key indicator, is under control in 44 per cent of the districts, the latest data released by the ministry of health and family welfare show. Backed by growing evidence that the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic is coming under control, state governments have begun the unlocking process.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
