Edappadi Palaniswami praises the Union Budget 2026-27 for promoting MSME growth and ensuring sustained economic stability in India.
Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Sunday (February 1, 2026) said the Union Budget 2026-27 had been framed with a clear focus on strengthening fiscal management, reducing the fiscal deficit, and ensuring sustained economic growth.
“These measures will further reinforce India’s long-term economic stability and growth trajectory. The emphasis placed in the Budget on reducing imports, enhancing domestic production, promoting research and manufacturing, and encouraging high-technology sectors, including artificial intelligence, digital manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, container manufacturing, and green energy, is commendable,” he said in a statement.
Mr. Palaniswami noted that despite prevailing global uncertainties, India’s economy continued to demonstrate resilience and strength, with growth projected at 6.5% to 7% in 2025-26 and expected to rise further to 6.8% to 7.2% in 2026-27.
Highlighting the measures announced for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Mr. Palaniswami said the allocation of ₹2,000 crore to ensure credit access and ₹10,000 crore for MSME growth financing would greatly benefit entrepreneurs and small industries.
“Tamil Nadu, which has a strong MSME base, will particularly gain from these initiatives. The allocation of funds for the development of the textile sector, particularly in regions such as Tiruppur and Karur, would provide significant impetus to employment generation and export growth,” he added.
