A UK man was taken into custody on Monday after damaging self-service check-in kiosks and other equipment at Hong Kong International Airport.
Shattered screens, overturned kiosks and damaged railings marked the aftermath of an early morning rampage at Hong Kong International Airport, where a 35-year-old British man was later arrested.
The incident unfolded at around 6am at Aisle J of Terminal 1, according to the Airport Authority. Social media videos circulating online show the man forcefully pushing over several smart check-in kiosks before striking them repeatedly with a metal post.
In the footage, he is seen toppling equipment one after another, then picking up a metal pole and smashing it into the screens. Witnesses said he also used his luggage trolley to knock down railings and attacked nearby counters, damaging a glass panel in the process. After the outburst, he is seen walking away while still holding the metal pole.
The Airport Authority confirmed that around 10 smart check-in kiosks, along with railings and counters, were damaged during the episode.

“Airport Authority staff and airport security personnel rushed to the scene and warned the man to stop causing further damage,” a spokesperson said according to a report by The Daily Mail.

If true, the deployment will give Britain the capability to launch strikes on Iran in case the regional conflict escalates drastically. Earlier, on Friday, the British government had authorised the US military to use military bases in Britain to carry out strikes on Iranian missile sites that are attacking ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
