
Udhayanidhi Stalin named State Planning Commission’s ex-officio vice-chairperson

Tamil Nadu government appoints Udhayanidhi Stalin as SPC vice-chairperson, with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin as chairperson.
The Tamil Nadu government has named Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin as the ex-officio vice-chairperson of the State Planning Commission (SPC). SPC vice-chairperson J. Jeyaranjan has been re-designated as the executive vice-chairperson.
The State government has also included Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam as the SPC’s ex-officio member, officials said. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin remains the Commission’s ex-officio chairperson. The G.O. in this regard was issued on December 2, Monday.
Informed sources said that a proposal was received to include Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin in the Commission. Since he was holding the planning and development portfolio, the State government decided to designate him as the ex-officio vice-chairperson of the Commission.
R. Srinivasan and M. Vijayabaskar are the Commission’s full-time members, while Sultan Ahmed, K. Deenabandu, N. Ezhilan, Mallika Srinivasan, J. Amalorpavanathan, G. Sivaraman and Narthaki Nataraj are part-time members.
Secretary of Planning & Development Department Ramesh Chand Meena and Secretary T. Udhayachandran are ex-officio members of the panel. Sudha S. is the member secretary.

The first jallikattu event in Tamil Nadu for the year 2026 was held at Thatchankurichi village of Pudukottai district on January 3, 2026 (Saturday) marking the commencement of the sporting season in the State. Following it, Avaniapuram village in Madurai district hosted the next jallikattu, on the day of Pongal festival on January 15. On the day of Maattu Pongal (January 16), ‘jallikattu’ is being held at Palamedu village in Madurai district and at Suriyur village in Tiruchi district. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to inaugurate the world-famous Alanganallur jallikattu in Madurai district on January 17.
