Miss J Alexander opened up about how the supermodel reacted to his condition in Netflix’s new docuseries.
Anyone who grew up in the ’00s is probably incredibly familiar with the reality show “America’s Next Top Model,” which premiered in 2003 and ran for 24 seasons. But in case you missed it, it basically follows a bunch of aspiring models who compete against each other in a series of challenges to win a lucrative modeling contract.
The show was hosted by Tyra Banks, who was also an executive producer as she was actually the one who came up with the concept and pitched it to esteemed TV producer Ken Mok in the early ’00s.
It’s fair to say that “ANTM” hasn’t exactly aged well over the last 23 years, with controversial clips from the show often resurfacing on social media to huge backlash. From shocking photo shoot themes, including race-swapping, to how the contestants were treated, the entire series has faced serious scrutiny.
And all of that scrutiny comes to a head in the Netflix documentary “Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model,” which premiered on Monday. The three-part series breaks down the show’s biggest controversies, with former contestants as well as Banks and her fellow judges returning to share their side of the story.
Some of the content is genuinely shocking, but one thing that viewers did not anticipate was the sad health update from one of the original beloved judges on the show, J Alexander, also known as Miss J.
