Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin vows to prevent future accidents like Karur stampede, announces Inquiry Commission.
The Director General of Police has clearly explained the difference between the crowd expected as projected by the party and the actual turnout, how additional security was provided, and the delay in each of Vijay’s meetings. “I do not want to politicise or blame anybody. The Inquiry Commission will bring out the truth,” he said.
Answering a query, he said all political party leaders had a right to meet the people. “It is their democratic duty, and nobody can prevent it. However, depending on the crowd turnouts, the police make certain requests such as asking people not to climb trees or to disturb the public.”
Leaders of the parties have a responsibility (to adhere to them); when huge crowds turn up, they should arrive in time. “There are many other issues too,” he observed.
