Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam member requests SVIMS to be recognized as Institute of National Importance for better funding.
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) trust board member G. Bhanu Prakash Reddy on Saturday submitted a request letter to Executive Officer (EO) J. Syamala Rao, asking him to bring Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) into the fold of Institute of National Importance (INI).
An INI is a public higher education institution, which is given special status by the Parliament. The Central government recognises, supervises and provides funds to the INIs in order to enhance them as learning centres for academics as well as research and development.
In the letter, Mr. Bhanu Prakash stated: “At present, SVIMS is maintained by the TTD. With the recognition as an INI, it would get more financial aid from the Centre and it can offer medical services to the people of Rayalaseema more efficiently.”
He further urged the TTD authorities to include this matter in the agenda of the next board meeting.
