Trinamool Congress nominates Ritabrata Banerjee for Rajya Sabha, reflecting tireless effort and commitment to trade union workers.
The Trinamool Congress on Saturday (December 7, 2024) nominated Ritabrata Banerjee for upcoming elections to Rajya Sabha from West Bengal.
“Under the inspiration of Hon’ble Chairperson @MamataOfficial, we are pleased to announce the candidature of Shri Ritabrata Banerjee (@RitabrataBanerj) for the forthcoming Rajya Sabha bye-Elections. We extend our heartfelt wishes to him. May he work towards upholding Trinamool’s enduring legacy of indomitable spirit and continue advocating for the rights of every Indian,” Trinamool Congress posted on social media.
Mr. Banerjee (44) heads the trade union wing of Trinamool Congress -Indian National Trinamool Trade Union Congress (INTTUC). Once elected, this will be his second term to the Upper House. Mr. Banerjee was the president of Students Federation of India (SFI) and in 2014 he was nominated by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal. Mr. Banerjee was 34 years old when he was sent to Upper House by the CPI(M). However, he was suspended from the CPI(M) in 2017 for anti-party activities and he later joined the Trinamool Congress.
Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee described the nomination to the Upper House as “truly well-deserved, reflecting the tireless effort”.
“@RitabrataBanerj has invested in strengthening the organization and advocating for trade union workers across WB. While it may take time, commitment, performance and hard work are always rewarded in the end,” the general secretary said.
A vacancy to the Upper House was created after Trinamool Congress MP Jawhar Sircar, resigned from Rajya Sabha. Mr. Sircar, a former bureaucrat, had resigned over the West Bengal government’s handling of rape and murder of a doctor at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata earlier this year.
