Railway traffic disrupted in Kerala due to fallen trees, quickly resolved by Fire and Rescue Services and railway officials.
Railway traffic on the Kozhikode-Shoranur route in Kerala was disrupted for three hours on Tuesday (May 27, 2025) morning after two trees fell on the railway line near Areekkad in Kozhikode around 8 a.m.
The trees have been cut and removed under the aegis of the Fire and Rescue Services department. The electric lines of the railways that were damaged in the mishap were repaired by railway officials. The rail traffic was restored completely by 11 a.m.
The two trees from the compound of the Nallalam Diesel Power Plant had fallen over the tracks and damaged the electric line minutes before the Chennai Mail was to pass through the track. The local people alerted the loco pilot early enough to stop the train before it reached the spot. The train passed slowly through the tracks a few minutes later.
The accident happened just 100 metres away from the spot where another tree and a roofing sheet fell into the track on Monday night, disrupting the traffic for eight hours. A major tragedy was averted due to the intervention of local people as the Thirunelveli- Jamnagar Express was stopped just fifty metres away from the spot.
