Maharashtra has been reporting a rapid increase in the Covid-19 caseload as well as statewide toll due to the infection. However, there was no increase in the death rate between April 1 and April 28. So, why is the state reporting so many deaths? Read on know what expert says.
Maharashtra is the worst-hit state by Covid-19 pandemic. Both — the caseload and the Covid-19 death toll — in the state have been rapidly increasing amid reports of shortage of oxygen and Remdesivir injections, prescribed for critical patients. However, state health officials maintain that the state-wide death toll has not risen much. Meanwhile, patients complain that they are struggling to get beds as the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic stays strong in Maharashtra. On April 1, the number of deaths in Maharashtra stood at 249. There were 43,183 new Covid-19 positive cases and the death rate stood at 1.92 per cent.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
