
Tobacco use falling: WHO urges countries to invest in helping more people to quit tobacco

The number of tobacco users globally is expected to drop to 1.27 billion by 2025, as per a report by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The fourth World Health Organization (WHO) global tobacco trends report released on Tuesday showed that there are 1.30 billion tobacco users globally as compared to 1.32 billion in 2015. This number is expected to drop to 1.27 billion by 2025.
As many as 60 countries are now on track to achieve the voluntary global target of a 30 per cent reduction in tobacco use between 2010 and 2025. Two years ago, only 32 countries were on this track.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
