Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife have moved the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of the Enforcement Directorate's summons, and sought directions that the case be examined in Kolkata in accordance with law."There is a serious apprehension about the fairness of the investigation being conducted by the ED, Delhi, which is a department under the central government (Ministry of Finance), and it is evident that the agency is being used to intimidate, threaten, coerce and attempt to falsely implicate them," says Mr Banerjee's counsel Rupin Bahl. According to the counsel, Banerjee had already appeared before the ED on September 6 6and was questioned for over nine hours largely on matters unconnected to the case under investigation.ALSO READ: 2 foreign bank accounts of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee’s wife under probe in coal smuggling case
"Despite knowing clearly and having been informed that Mrs Banerjee is a housewife and the mother of two minor children, she is being repeatedly directed to travel to Delhi even though the ED has a fully functional zonal office at Kolkata and it has questioned other women in relation to the case at their respective homes," Bahl said.
