BJP national president JP Nadda said he rebuked Karnataka cabinet minister K S Eshwarappa for saying that the saffron flag may become the national flag some time in the future.
Amid a political slugfest in Karnataka over K S Eshwarappa’s alleged statement about the saffron flag, BJP national president JP Nadda said he had rebuked the cabinet minister for his remarks.
“I called Eshwarappa and ticked him off for his comments on saffron flag,” said Nadda in an exclusive interview with India Today News Director Rahul Kanwal.
Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa had sparked a massive controversy when he said the saffron flag may become the national flag some time in the future.
The Congress has demanded the resignation of the minister and said that he be booked slapped with sedition charges for his remarks about the national flag.
In the wake of Eshwarappa’s statement, heated scenes have been witnessed in the Karnataka assembly as the Congress pressed for action against the BJP leader, who has refused to take back his contentious remarks.
Nadda hit out at the Karnataka Congress for fuelling the controversy over hijab in the state and trying to gain political traction from it.
“The Opposition is trying to keep hijab matter burning. We [the BJP] are fighting elections on developmental issues,” he said.
