One of the buzziest blockbusters of the year broke Academy Awards records with its nomination haul.
Ready, set, action: The Oscars race has officially begun.
Actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman announced the nominees for the 98th Academy Awards at 5:30 a.m. PT on Thursday, well before sunrise at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Beverly Hills headquarters.
Some 317 films were eligible for consideration across the awards’ 24 competitive categories, which includes the Best Casting Oscar for the first time this year.
Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” a rich, supernatural saga set in the Jim Crow South broke all-time Oscar records with 16 nominations.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s relentless political thriller “One Battle After Another” was right behind with 15 nominations.
