TGPSC aspirants protest over job calendar
Hundreds of youths gathered under makeshift tents to protest at Dharna Chowk on Lower Tank Bund Road on Wednesday, demanding that the State government issue recruitment notifications and announce a job calendar. Telangana State Public Service Commission (TGPSC) exam aspirants held placards demanding that the government keep its promise.
Around 200 to 300 students from different parts of Hyderabad took part in the dharna, which was held peacefully with police permission, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. The aspirants sat on the road holding placards with slogans such as “No job calendar, 2 lakh jobs at once”, “Job guarantees”, “Youth anger, danger to the government”, and “What happened to the promises, what happened to the jobs”. Water bottles were stacked beside the seated protesters as slogans were raised at intervals.
Police said a relatively smaller bandobust was arranged as the protest had prior permission, with around 100 to 150 police personnel deployed in and around the area to regulate movement and ensure law and order.
An aspirant at the protest, who did not wish to be named, said the prolonged uncertainty was wearing students down. “We have been preparing for years without knowing when notifications will come. A proper job calendar will at least give us clarity and help us plan our future,” the student said.
Police officials present at the spot said there were no untoward incidents during the dharna and that the protesters dispersed peacefully after 2 p.m., with traffic in the surrounding areas remaining largely unaffected.
