IMD issues orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms in Telangana districts on May 7, warning of lightning and gusty winds.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for thunderstorms across several districts of Telangana for Wednesday (May 7, 2025), cautioning of lightning activity and gusty winds.
An orange alert, indicating a higher likelihood of severe weather, was issued for 17 districts. These include Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal. The IMD has urged residents and local authorities in these areas to remain vigilant.
A yellow alert, signifying the possibility of moderate thunderstorms, was issued for 13 districts. These are Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, and Medchal Malkajgiri.
The maximum temperatures continue to be relatively lower than over 45°C recorded in April fourth week. The highest temperature on Monday (May 5, 2025) was 42.8°C in Mendora of Nizamabad, followed by 42.6°C in Talamadugu of Adilabad and Ibrahimpatnam or Jagtial and 42.5°C in Ieeja of Jogulamba Gadwal. The temperatures in the urban districts were over 40°C: while 40.8°C was recorded in Hyderabad, it was 41.1°C in Medchal and 41.6°C in Rangareddy.
