Telangana Police arrested 10 people for smuggling 470 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.2 crore. They were planning to sell it in Mumbai for Rs 20,000 per kilo. Two other accused escaped the police and are on the run.
Telangana Police, on Monday, May 23, arrested 10 people and seized 470 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 1.2 crore. Two other accused escaped the police and are on the run.
The arrested men were smuggling the ganja from Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district to Mumbai, reported The Times of India. They had purchased the contraband in the Agency area of East Godavari district for Rs 3,000 per kilogram.
Police said that they were planning to sell it for Rs 20,000 per kilo.
According to police sources, they were transporting the ganja in two cars. After receiving a tip-off, police nabbed them on the outskirts of Pasamamula village. Two of the arrested people were women.
Rachakonda Police arrested Naikam Rahul of Alluri Seetharama Raju district, C Srikanth of Yadadri, Shaik Nawazuddin of Sangareddy, Akash Kumar and Vinayak of Bidar district in Karnataka, Banavath Naga of Nalgonda, Gowlikar Sai Ajay of Borabanda in Hyderabad, Sainath Chowhan of Medak and Jeripothula Ravi and Domatio Sangeetha of Medchal district.
Raju and Sanyasi Rao, both belonging to East Godavari, are on the run.
A police officer said, “Srikanth, Chowhan, Ajay and Sangeetha went to a village in Donkarai Agency area in two cars and met Rahul. They procured 470 kg of ganja from Raju and Sanyasi Rao. They left Donkarai to reach Mumbai via Hyderabad. While they were on their way, we caught them.”
