AAI identifies potential airport sites in Telangana, including Warangal, Adilabad, and Jakranpally, for future development.
In response to a request from the Telangana government, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has identified three potential sites for airport development in the State following a pre-feasibility study. The locations, Warangal, Adilabad and Jakranpally (Nizamabad) were highlighted by Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha on December 5.
The Minister, addressing questions raised by BJP MPs Arvind Dharmapuri and M. Raghunandan Rao, clarified that Warangal and Adilabad are brownfield airports, while Jakranpally is a greenfield site. He also noted that AAI has advised the Telangana government to conduct a fresh Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) survey and secure necessary approvals from the Ministry of Civil Aviation before proceeding with development.
Additionally, the State government has identified two other locations, Bhadradri Kothagudem and Anthargaon (Peddapalli) for potential airport projects. However, no formal proposals for site clearance under the Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy have been submitted to the Union government by either the Telangana government or private developers, the Minister added.
Under the GFA Policy, responsibility for implementing airport projects, including land acquisition, funding and clearances, lies with the respective State government or airport developer. “The timeline for completion depends on multiple factors such as land acquisition, environmental approvals and financial arrangements,” the Minister explained.
Regarding the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS-UDAN), which aims to make air travel affordable for citizens, the minister said that airstrips in Adilabad, Aleru and Kagaznagar are included in the tentative UDAN list of unserved airports in Telangana. However, no airline has yet submitted proposals to operate flights from these locations.
Currently, Telangana has two operational airports: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) and Begumpet Airport. RGIA handles scheduled flights while Begumpet Airport is designated for non-scheduled flight operations.

The Union and State governments provided support in several ways to the needy people, but private institutions should also extend help, especially to those requiring medical assistance, said C.P. Rajkumar, Managing Director, Nalam Multispeciality Hospital, here on Saturday. Speaking at a function to honour Inspector General of Police V. Balakrishnan and neurologist S. Meenakshisundaram with C. Palaniappan Memorial Award for their contribution to society and Nalam Kappom medical adoption of Type-1 diabetic children, he said the governments implemented numerous welfare programmes, but the timely help by a private hospital or a doctor in the neighbourhood to the people in need would go a long way in safeguarding their lives.
