
TDP seeks detailed probe into ‘smuggling’ of human hair

TDP's Ram Prasad on Thursday urged the Customs Preventive Commissionerate to conduct a detailed inquiry into the alleged smuggling of human hair from Tirumala to China via the northeast and Myanmar.
Days after the seizure of smuggled hair worth Rs 2 crore along the India-Myanmar border, the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) has approached the Customs Preventive Commissionerate to conduct an inquiry into the alleged smuggling of tonsured hair from Tirumala. Party senior leader Ram Prasad on Thursday met and submitted a memorandum to Customs Commissioner K Venkatarami Reddy on Thursday. He called for strong action against such gangs involved in the illegal transportation of hair. The TDP claimed that the Assam Rifles have said that 125 bags of hair seized by them belong to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
