
Tax officials need to answer: Brother of Bengaluru tycoon who shot himself dead

CJ Roy, Confident Group chairman, shot himself dead amid ongoing Income Tax raids at his Bengaluru office over an alleged asset discrepancy case. His elder brother has sought answers from I-T officials, saying Roy faced intense pressure despite no financial issues.
The brother of Confident Group chief CJ Roy, who shot himself dead following Income Tax raids at his office in Bengaluru, has alleged that pressure from the officials may have driven him to take the extreme step. Speaking to a Malayalam news channel, he demanded answers from the authorities about what forced Roy to end his life.
"I don't know how the Income Tax team troubled him. They need to answer what happened that made him (Roy) take such a step. He was under pressure for the last three to four days. I was calming him down, but I did not think he would do something like this," Roy's brother said.
"I do not know what pressure they exerted on him, but I have lost my younger brother," he added.
CJ Roy, founder and chairman of Kerala-based Confident Group, shot himself with his licensed firearm at his Bengaluru office following days of Income Tax department raids in connection with alleged assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
According to Roy's brother, he had no financial troubles. "He had zero debt and a very good bank balance," he said.
He also revealed that Income Tax officials from Kerala came to his Benagluru office on December, 3, 2025 and then again on January 28 after calling Roy back from Dubai.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
