
Tamil Nadu’s fishermen rescue rare Leatherback turtle from a ghost net

The leatherback, with its scientific name Dermochelys coriacea, is the only remaining species of the Genus and is the largest of the turtle species and comes under vulnerable status.
A few fishermen who were fishing 5km offshore from Kovalam village near Chennai on 12th November, rescued a Leatherback turtle from a ghost net. To their surprise, it was a full-grown adult Leatherback turtle and was stuck to the ghost net which was tangled in the right flipper.
Fishermen, Sreeni, Prabhu and Vela rescued the turtle near Chennai.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
