Tamil Nadu govt. to establish a dedicated industrial park for Taiwanese firms near Chennai, says Minister

Minister announces industrial parks, investment opportunities, job creation, and infrastructure development initiatives in Tamil Nadu.

Minister for Industries T.R.B. Rajaa announced in the Assembly on Friday that a dedicated industrial park for Taiwanese companies, a key contributor to foreign direct investment in Tamil Nadu, will be established Chennai to attract investment worth ₹10,000 crore and create jobs for 20,000 people.

Speaking during the demand for grants for the Industries Department, he said the government would etablish guidance desks in the U.S., Germany, South Korea, and Vietnam. A Mini-TIDEL Park will be established in the industrially backward Nagapattinam district to provide jobs to 600 people, he said.

In the Chinnasalem taluk of Kallakurichi district, a SIPCOT Industrial Park will be developed to attract ₹650 crore in investment and generate 9,000 jobs. Similarly, the government will establish a SIPCOT Industrial Park in Sankarankoil taluk of Tenkasi district at a cost of ₹300 crore to generate jobs for 3,000 people; in the Karaikudi taluk of Sivaganga district at a cost of ₹200 crore to generate 2,000 jobs; and in Vellore district at a cost of ₹500 crore to generate employment for 5,000 people, the Minister said.

To transform Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, and Thoothukudi districts into textile and apparel manufacturing hubs, SIPCOT Tex Parks will be established in collaboration with textile industry associations. A 22.7-MLD (million litres a day) Tertiary Treated Reverse Osmosis water supply project, costing ₹380 crore, will be implemented at the Kodungaiyur Water Treatment Plant for use by factories at Gummidipoondi, Manallur, and Thervoy-Kandigai SIPCOT in Tiruvallur district, he said.

For the accommodation of the industrial workers in the Pillaipakkam, Oragadam and Vallam Vadagal Industrial Estates in Kancheepuram district, housing will be created for 2,000 workers at a cost of ₹120 crore, Mr. Rajaa said.

He said that given the need for modern storage facilities for accelerating the economic development of the State, a Tamil Nadu Warehousing Policy would be released to encourage the establishment of new warehouses. He also announced that a Marine Food Processing Industrial Policy would be released for promoting investments in the sea food processing sector and improving the livelihood of fishermen.

To improve the livelihood of fishermen in and around Thanjavur district, a Marine-Food Processing and Export Park would be established at Rajamadam to attract investment worth ₹ 200 crore and generate direct and indirect employment for 2,000 people, he added.
