Rameswaram Police arrested 6 men for allegedly gang raping and murdering a 45-year-old woman. They also reportedly burnt the woman’s face to ensure that the corpse wasn’t identified.
A 45-year-old fisherwoman from Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram was gangraped and murdered on Tuesday, May 24. Six men from Orissa, who were working on a prawn farm in the region, have been arrested by the police, and the case is being investigated.
On Tuesday, when the woman didn’t return from work, her family went out in search for the missing woman.
The middle-aged woman is said to have been apprehended by three men who then gangraped her. After committing the crime, they murdered her and to make sure the woman wasn’t identified, the alleged accused burnt her face.
As per the preliminary reports, six men from Orissa working on a prawn farm in the region are suspected of gang raping and killing her.
As a result of the horrific crime, people in the region even protested outside the hospital saying that the woman’s body would not be accepted till proper action was taken against the North Indian men, whom the family suspects.
The public, angered by the incident, had even attacked the six men before the police could take them into custody.
The family has registered a complaint with the Rameswaram Nagar police station and the police have arrested six men and they are under investigation.
