
Tamil Nadu fisherman injured in firing by Sri Lankan Navy personnel

Sri Lankan Navy, in the wee hours on Monday, opened fire at a mechanised boat that had ventured into the sea from Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam port, after the boat had reportedly crossed the maritime border.
A fisherman from Tamil Nadu's Nagapattinam was injured after Sri Lankan Navy allegedly opened fire at a boat, officials said on Monday. Ten fishermen belonging to Tamil Nadu's Akkaraipettai and Keechankuppamhamlets ventured into the sea in a mechanised boat from Nagapattinam port on July 28, Nagapattinam fisheries department officials said.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
