Sweden ousts Canada from Olympic men's hockey tournament

Sweden eliminated Canada from the Olympic men's hockey tournament with a 2-0 win to set up an all-European semifinal round at Beijing 2022.
The game was scoreless after two periods, but Sweden ramped up the pressure in the third period, much of which was played in Canada's end. Just after the halfway mark of the third, Canada's Jack McBain tried a drop pass as Canada was making its way out of its end, but the puck ended up on the stick of Sweden's Lucas Wallmark.
Wallmark's shot hit the stick of Canada's Tyler Wotherspoon for a slight deflection to fool goaltender Matt Tomkins, for the Swede's tournament-leading fifth goal.
Sweden added some insurance with an empty-net goal with just under two minutes remaining in regulation.
Sweden will next play the Russian Olympic Committee in the semis.
Slovakia, who stunned the United States with a 3-2 shootout win in the quarter-finals, will meet Finland, in the other semi.
The gold-medal game is slated for 11:10 p.m. ET on Saturday at the National Indoor Stadium.
