Suspected meteorite breaks through Houston home's roof
USA TODAY
The Houston resident said the meteorite broke through the roof and ceiling before landing in a bedroom in her home, according to reports.
A meteor weighing about a ton was streaking through the sky over Houston, and pieces of it may have penetrated a local resident's roof and ceiling, according to reports.
Sherrie James, a Houston resident, told local news outlet KHOU 11 that a possible meteorite, remnants from the meteor that was spotted, punched a hole through her ceiling and landed in one of the upstairs bedrooms in her home.
"We heard a big boom," James told the news outlet. "My grandson went to check and said there was a hole in the ceiling… then I saw the rock, and I thought, 'that looks like a meteor.'"
The rock landed through James' home after NASA confirmed witnesses saw a "bright fireball" northwest of Houston in Stagecoach, Texas, on Saturday, March 21, the space agency stated in a post on X.
James called the fire department after the incident, according to KHOU 11. The department believed the rock could have fallen off a plane, but later told James of reports that the reported meteor had fallen over Houston.
