The first suspected case of monkeypox in Telangana was identified in the Kamareddy district on Sunday.
A 40-year-old man from Indiranagar Colony, Kamareddy district showed monkeypox symptoms. The patient, who had returned from Kuwait on July 6, was shifted to the monkeypox isolation ward at the Fever Hospital in Nallakunta and tested on Sunday evening.
He developed a fever on July 20 and on July 23, he developed rashes. None of his six contacts showed any symptoms, an official said.
The Director of Public Health, G Srinivas Rao, in a release, said, "The private hospital doctor diagnosed the symptoms of monkeypox and referred a person to Kamareddy District Hospital. From there he was shifted to fever hospital. The sample was collected and sent to the National Institute of Virology Lab in Pune. Until the results come in, he will be kept under isolation in the fever hospital and will be provided treatment. We have identified six people who had direct contact with this person. None of them had any symptoms. They have also been kept in isolation."
The fourth case in India of the monkeypox virus was detected in Delhi on Sunday. The patient, who was admitted to the city's Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, has no history of foreign travel.
The 34-year-old man had recently attended a stag party in Himachal Pradesh's Manali. He was admitted to the hospital around three days ago with fever and skin lesions.
