Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has said it was important to implement a common education system in the country as it might solve problems such as overpopulation. His statement comes on a day when the UP government released its new population policy.

Taking to Twitter, the Hindustani Awam Morcha leader said, "I am in favour of common civil code but more important than that is to implement common education system in the country. The biggest reason for the increasing population is illiteracy and poverty, so it is most important that the common schooling system should be implemented in the country, which will solve many problems."
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
