Sunetra Pawar takes charge as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister

Sunetra Pawar on Tuesday officially took charge as the Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, 13 days after the sudden death of her husband Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in Baramati. She was accompanied by her elder son, Parth Pawar, and NCP MP Praful Patel. She signed a file and attended a pre-Cabinet meeting of NCP.

Sunetra Pawar was then elected as NCP's legislative party leader. She took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra on January 31.
Before officially taking charge, Sunetra Pawar went to 'Devgiri', the official residence of Ajit Pawar when he was the Deputy CM. From there, she went to Siddhivinayak temple before heading to Chaitya Bhoomi. Sunetra Pawar paid homage to Dr BR Ambedkar at Chaitya Bhoomi and from there, she went to the NCP's party office to visit her late husband's cabin.
Sunetra Pawar will have portfolios of excise, sports and youth welfare, minority development and Aukaf ministries. Her late husband's finance department will stay with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

India's original Dhurandhar, Ravindra Kaushik, rose from acting at college theatres, to infiltrating the Pakistan Army as a RAW Agent. He provided critical intelligence on Pakistani troop movements and the country's nuclear programme, but died a lonely death after his betrayal and subsequent capture by the ISI.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
