Sugarcane farmers will decide fate and taste of next regime in UP
India Today
Farmers in Baghpat district spoke to India today and said the issue of sugarcane price would have an impact in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
Last week, the NDA government at the Centre increased the minimum price of sugarcane for the 2021-22 season. The Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) which the sugarcane mills pay to the farmers was raised by Rs 5 per quintal to Rs 290. On top of it, the move did not affect the price of sugar in the market.
However, the uncertainty on prices and dues continues in the Jat belt of western Uttar Pradesh, the largest sugarcane grower in the state at a time when the crop awaits harvesting in less than a month.
