Tension in Bagalkot, Karnataka, after stone-pelting during Shivaji Jayanti procession; police question eight suspects.
Tension prevailed in Bagalkot New Town after two instances of stone-pelting on February 19 night and on February 20 morning. Police were deployed in large numbers in the city in north Karnataka to prevent the situation from getting out of control.

Police picked up eight persons for questioning, Superintendent of Police Siddarth Goel told reporters in Bagalkot on February 20.
According to the police, in the first instance, stones were thrown when the Shivaji Jayanti procession was moving through the old city on February 19 night.
The next morning, on February 20, stones were thrown at meat shops in Killa Oni area.
Efforts are underway to trace the culprits, police officers said.
