BJP's Puducherry alliance for Assembly polls is currently only with AINRC, with potential talks for AIADMK and LJP.
BJP in-charge for Puducherry Nirmal Kumar Surana on Friday (February 20, 2026) said the party’s alliance for the Assembly polls in the Union Territory (UT) was only with the AINRC “for now.”
“We have an alliance for the Assembly polls only with the AINRC for now. We might induct the AIADMK and LJP into the alliance. We are in talks with both parties,” he told reporters outside Lok Niwas.
The preliminary round of seat-sharing talks with the AINRC was held when Chief Minister N. Rangasamy met Union Home Minister Amit Shah at Karaikal recently, he said. “The alliance with the AINRC has been sealed, and we are in talks with other parties,” he added.
Earlier, Mr. Surana, along with Home Minister A. Namassivayam, Speaker R. Selvam, and BJP president V.P. Ramalingam, met Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan at Lok Niwas.
The BJP leader said the delegation discussed with the Lt. Governor the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Puducherry on March 1.
“We met the Lt. Governor to discuss the preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, which will be purely official. At the party level, we will be making arrangements to make the visit a huge success,” he said.
