What began as a brief halt for passengers to use the toilet on a late-night bus journey turned into a deadly tragedy on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh, where six people were crushed to death by a speeding tanker in Mathura district.
The accident took place when passengers travelling from Delhi to Kanpur Dehat stepped out of their bus and stood by the roadside.
Moments later, a fast-moving DCM tanker rammed into them, leaving six people dead and one person critically injured.
Police said the bus had stopped on the expressway to allow passengers to relieve themselves.
“At the time of the accident, the bus was stationary and some passengers had stepped out to use the toilet,” a police officer said.
“A speeding DCM vehicle hit the people standing on the roadside.”
