The "Late Show" host takes a deep dive into the "fringe" idea behind the president's latest claim.
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert said President Donald Trump delivered a “kind of very weird” answer to fairly ordinary question earlier this week.
A reporter on Air Force One asked about potential budget cuts at the Defense Department. Trump answered by saying “we’re gonna go into Fort Knox to make sure the gold is there.”
“OK, that wasn’t the question,” Colbert said. “So what the hell is Trump talking about?”
Fortunately, Colbert did the homework on this one.
“Follow me down the stupid hole, friends,” he said, then explained the “fringe” conspiracy theories about Fort Knox that tech billionaire/Trump backer Elon Musk has been “obsessed with” lately.
