
Statue of DMK founder Annadurai set on fire in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi, Stalin condemns incident

A statue of DMK founder and former Tamil Nadu chief minister CN Annadurai 'Anna' was set on fire in Kallakurichi on Friday. DMK chief MK Stalin termed it an attempt to incite violence.
A statue of DMK founder CN Annadurai was vandalized in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi district on Friday. With assembly elections less than a week away, tensions are running high in the district since the incident took place. Locals said unknown persons set fire to the statue of CN Annadurai, who was the first chief minister of Tamil Nadu. The police in Kallakurichi is gathering footage from CCTV cameras in the area to identify and track down the culprits.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
