
Stalked, harassed, racially abused: Nagaland doctor at AIIMS Gorakhpur targeted

A third-year resident doctor from Nagaland posted at the AIIMS Gorakhpur was allegedly subjected to racial slurs, stalking and physical assault by three men near the institute’s premises on Sunday evening, news agency PTI reported. The incident has triggered widespread condemnation and renewed concerns over the safety of medical professionals and discrimination against people from the Northeast.
According to police, the incident occurred around 8 pm on February 22 as the obstetrics and gynaecology resident was returning to campus and walking towards Gate No. 2 near the Army camp.
The accused allegedly followed her for nearly 1.5 kilometres before confronting her near the institute gates.
Kaustubh, Gorakhpur Senior Superintendent of Police, confirmed that a case has been registered at the AIIMS police station under relevant sections of law, though he did not disclose the specific provisions invoked in the FIR.
"CCTV footage has helped identify a motorcycle linked to the accused. Four police teams have been formed to track them down," the SSP said, adding that strict action would be taken once the suspects are apprehended.
In her complaint, the doctor alleged that the three men passed obscene remarks and racial slurs targeting her northeastern origin.

According to the police, 19-year-old Sachin Dharmendrabhai Chaudhary, who works as a labourer, had borrowed the money before expressing his inability to repay it immediately, police said. He was allegedly threatened with his life over the delay in repayment. Fearing for his life, Sachin immediately alerted the police.
