
SRMU members protest against privatisation of railways in Madurai

Southern Railway Mazdoor Union protests against railway privatisation, outsourcing, demands workforce rationalisation, pension scheme restoration, and other reforms.
Members of Southern Railway Mazdoor Union on Friday staged at demonstration against privatisation of railways and outsourcing of various works in the railway department.
The protest was led by the union Madurai divisional secretary J.M. Rafi.
The agitators demanded railways to stop rationalisation of workforce and to fill up the vacancies immediately, particularly in the Safety Department.
They wanted withdrawal of new pension scheme and restoration of old pension scheme.
The union also demanded implementation of cadre restructuring for all categories with effect from January 1, 2023 and withdrawal of implementation of biometric attendance for all staff.
They insisted on 8-hour roaster for all categories and calendar day weekly rest for loco pilots and train managers.
