Snowfall warning in effect for Toronto as cold snap brings frigid temperatures

Toronto is under a yellow snowfall warning with 10 centimetres of snow expected to affect the morning and evening commute on Wednesday.
An Alberta clipper, a low pressure system, is forecast to bring the snow starting Wednesday morning and easing in the afternoon, Environment Canada said in the warning issued late Tuesday afternoon.
Visibility could be poor at times if the snow is heavy or blowing, the agency says. Allow extra time for travel on Wednesday, it urges.
"Travel will likely be challenging," Environment Canada said.
"Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic."
The snow comes as the city is in the midst of cold snap, with freezing temperatures forecast to continue for some time.
Late last year, the federal weather agency introduced a new colour-coded warning system that changes the way critical information is shared across the country.
Each colour in the system, yellow, orange or red, represents a different risk and potential impact level and accompanies warnings, advisories and watches.
A yellow warning indicates a chance of localized or short-term moderate impact.
According to the warning issued for Toronto Tuesday, the impact is expected to be moderate while the agency's confidence in its forecast is high.
