A six-day national-level Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme for naturopathy and yoga teachers being organised by Alva’s College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences was inaugurated on Thursday at the college campus in Moodbidri.
Speaking after the inauguration, K. Sathya Lakshmi, director of National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune, Ministry of AYUSH, lauded the initiative of Alva’s Naturopathy College. She said: “In this ever-evolving world, teachers must embrace change and adapt to emerging technologies. CME programmes like this are crucial for their development.”
Ramachandra Setty, director of Development and Research at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, said: “In today’s tsunami of information, teachers must ask themselves why students should attend classes. This self-reflection can transform classrooms into hubs of wisdom.”
Dr. Setty further said: “Teachers must update themselves to stay relevant. Instead of merely explaining, educators should create experiences that make topics relatable. A questioning classroom encourages growth and teachers should not shy away from admitting gaps in knowledge, as this builds a genuine learning environment. When this happens, no Google can replace a teacher.”
Alva’s Education Foundation managing trustee Vivek Alva underlined the profound role of educators in shaping the future. “Teaching is not a 9-to-5 job but a responsibility of nation-building. Teachers must lead by example, practicing the values they impart to students. This approach fosters individual growth and a positive societal impact,“ he said.
College principal Vanitha Shetty, Alva’s Pharmacy College principal Manjunath Setty, Alva’s Homeopathy College principal Roshan Pinto, yoga department professor Archana, and others were present.
