Protest at Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for injured worker compensation and safety instruments resolved after negotiations.
Workers of Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital staged a protest on Saturday demanding compensation for the injured worker and safety instruments for the workers.
About 350 outsourced workers are employed at the hospital for several works like cleaning, maintenance, security and others. A worker Esther on Friday, while cleaning a lab, was severely injured on her face by a chemical substance.
Learning that she was exposed to acid, she was rushed to Government Rajaji Hospital.
On Saturday morning, hospital workers demanding ₹3 lakh compensation for the injured worker staged a demonstration and demanded safety instruments for the workers.
They refused to return to work until suitable compensation was provided for the worker.
After talks with the contract company which assured them necessary safety instruments and compensation for the injured worker, the protesters returned to work at 1 p.m.
