‘Show documents’: Shah Jahan's grandson challenges Diya Kumari's 'Jaipur royals own Taj Mahal land' claim

Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, who claims to be a Mughal descendant and Shah Jahan's grandson, reacted to the recent claims of Jaipur Royal scion and BJP MP Divya Kumari that her family owns the land on which Taj Mahal is built. Calling her allegations baseless, he challenged her to show the documents.

Prince Yakub Habeebuddin Tucy, who claims to be the descendent of Mughals, posted a video in response to BJP MP Diya Kumari’s remarks on the ownership of the Taj Mahal’s land. Yesterday, Kumari, who also happens to be a princess of the royal family of Jaipur, spoke to the media and said that the land that the Taj Mahal is built on belonged to her family.

Further, she asserted that she was ready to even produce the documents if necessary. Speaking in support of the petition to open the 22 doors of the marble monument, she said, “It should be investigated what was there before the monument was built. People have the right to know what was there originally before the 'maqbara'.”

In a video posted on his social media, Tucy challenged Divya Kumari’s claim and said that if she had “even a drop of Rajput blood in her”, she should show the documents. He went on to call her claims an “idiotic” move. Further, he said that Shah Jahan was Rajput’s maternal uncle since Shah Jahan’s second wife, Laal Bai, was a Rajput and so was Jodha Bai alias Harka Bai, wife of Akbar and grandmother of Shah Jahan.

He went on to elaborate on the practice of gifting land by the Rajputs to the mughals. Referring to the custom of giving their son-in-laws different places as gifts, he called Kumari’s allegations of land grabbing “baseless”. He said that the Rajputs had made alliances with the Mughals starting Akbar's reign, saying, “14 out of my 27 grandmothers were Rajputs.”
