Shiv Sena leader asks Mumbai police commissioner to take action against stores asking personal details

Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde wrote a letter to the Mumbai police commissioner, Sanjay Pandey, asking him to take appropriate steps against stores which ask customers for their personal details.

Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde wrote a letter to the Mumbai police commissioner, Sanjay Pandey, on Friday asking him to take “appropriate and corrective steps” against stores and food chains which ask customers for their personal details. Hegde said the act is a violation of privacy and can lead to financial fraud as all details of the customer are with the store.

Hedge also said that there is a potential risk of customer data being sold to commercial companies for a price which will lead to a wide circulation of sensitive data.

Earlier on April 28, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra had tweeted about her experience at a Decathlon store in Delhi-NCR’s Ansal Plaza where the manager insisted she give her mobile number and email in order to make a purchase.

Soon after her post went viral, Mahua Moitra received a text from a Supreme Court lawyer encouraging her to not give away her personal details. She had tweeted that Decathlon India needs to reconfigure their system.
