Kasim-Babu Brothers deliver a mesmerizing Nadaswaram concert at the 73rd annual music festival with traditional compositions.
Kasim-Babu Brothers, the grandsons and disciples of Nadhaswaram Maestro Sheik Chinna Moulana, rendered Mangala Isai (a full-fledged ‘Nadaswaram’ concert ) on the first day of the 73rd annual music and arts festival -2025 with Kalyanapuram Rajan and Vijay Kumar on the thavil.
To infuse energy into the concert, the brothers invoked the blessings of Lord Ganesa through “gajavadana karuna” in ragam Sri Ranjani by Papanasam Sivan.
They then played pancashatpitha rupini and shrI madurapuri viharini both by Muthuswamy Dikshitar in ‘Devagandhara’ and ‘Bilahari’ respectively, worshipping the presiding deity of Madurai Goddess Meenakshi.
They played Saamagaana lolane Sadashiva, (in praise of Lord Kapaaleeshwara) Cittam irangadadenayya (on Lord Muruga) in ragas Hindolam and Shahana by Papanasam Sivan, which witnessed good raga alapana and performing skills of the brothers.
The main raga of the evening was Hemavathi (a raga beloved especially of nadaswaram vidwans) for Dikshitar’s Sri Kanthimathim Shankara (on Goddess Gandhimathi dwelling on the bank of the pure river Tamirabharani).
The brothers brought out the shanta rasa (emotion) that Hemavati largely evokes and the way the brothers played the delicate gamakams brought out the inimitable beauty of the raga and received good applause from the rasikas.
The Thavil thani by Kalyanapuram Rajan and Madurai Vijayakumar, portrayed their skill in playing different patterns of the thalam including loud and soft beats.
