Several persons, including artistes with disabilities, were honoured at the inauguration of Margazhi Matram-Artabilities 4 All, organised by SciArtsRUs and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, at the Rasika Ranjani Sabha here on Friday.
The Rani Maganty Lifetime Achievement Award went to Carnatic musician, music therapist and musicologist S. Hariharan Nair and Japanese veena artiste Yuko Matoba. Mr. Hariharan’s award was collected by his relative, Arun.
The Rising Star Apex Award was presented to vocalist and violinist Akshaya Parthasarathy.
V-Excel Educational Trust (India), cross-disability rights advocate Smitha Sadasivan, and Bharatanatyam exponent Lucrezia Maniscotti were given the Trailblazer Award.
S. Natesan, student of The Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalithaa Music and Fine Arts University, Chennai, received the Vasantha Ramachander Memorial Scholarship. Vasudha Prakash, founder of V-Excel Educational Trust, noted that recognising differences was important.
“In this world, which is divided and filled with intolerance, we have to send a message that difference is okay. We have to learn to embrace everyone,” she said.

Palaniappan Memorial Award for their contribution to society and Nalam Kappom medical adoption of Type-1 diabetic children, he said the governments implemented numerous welfare programmes, but the timely help by a private hospital or a doctor in the neighbourhood to the people in need would go a long way in safeguarding their lives.
