Setback for Panneerselvam as banks allow Dindigul Srinivasan to operate AIADMK accounts

Private banks have allowed Dindigul Srinivasan, the new treasurer of AIADMK, to operate party accounts, in a big setback for Panneerselvam.
In a major setback for O Panneerselvam, private bank representatives accepted AIADMK interim general secretary E Palaniswami's (EPS) proposal and allowed Dindigul Srinivasan, the new treasurer, to operate party accounts. AIADMK holds accounts in Karur Vysya and Indian Bank with a balance of Rs 300 crore.
A day after he was expelled, OPS, the former coordinator and treasurer of AIADMK, had written to banks requesting them to not allow any transactions without his knowledge.
EPS had urged the concerned banks to recognise Srinivasan as the treasurer from July 12 and allow him to operate party accounts.
On Tuesday, bank officials reportedly verified the attached documents and permitted Srinivasan to handle the party transactions. An amount has also been withdrawn for the protest against the ruling DMK on July 25 and to disburse the salaries of other office bearers.
Bank sources stated that OPS' letter was not considered as he didn’t send any supporting documents, unlike EPS.
After Palaniswami was elevated to the position of AIADMK interim general secretary, bringing an end to the dual leadership structure within the party, he sacked 39 members of the 'rival faction' led by Panneerselvam. The long list included OPS' sons Ravindhranath, a Lok Sabha MP from Theni constituency, and Jayapradeep.
EPS has also accused OPS of colluding with DMK, storming party HQ and taking away documents with the help of state police after the general council meeting on July 11.
