Security tightened in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh after 'Operation Sindoor'; schools closed, Kartarpur corridor shut, civil defense drills conducted.
Security has been tightened in Punjab, especially in the border districts, even as Himachal Pradesh reviewed the State’s security, transport, and communication systems on Wednesday (May 7, 2025). This came after India launched attacks on terror infrastructure in Pakistan as part of ‘Operation Sindoor’.
While schools in most border districts of Punjab, including Amritsar, Pathankot, Fazilka, and Ferozepur, have been closed, the Kartarpur corridor in Gurdaspur district was also shut for the day.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has shut down the Kartarpur Corridor. “Considering the extant security scenario, the services of Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor are suspended till further directions,” said the message on the ministry’s website related to the Kartarpur Corridor.
Many pilgrims reached the Kartarpur corridor on Wednesday morning to offer prayers at the gurdwara in Pakistan but were asked to return. The corridor connects the Kartarpur Sahib gurdwara, in Pakistan’s Narowal district across the Ravi river, with the Dera Baba Nanak shrine in India’s Gurdaspur district.
