An exchange of fire took place between security forces and Maoists on Monday during a combing operation in the forest of Kandhamal in Odisha. Security forces have seized arms, ammunition, medicines and Maoist literature from the spot. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Red Rebels in Gochhapada Police Station limits, the Kandhamal Police launched a search and combing operation in Kandhamal district.
A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
