Salem district receives ₹2,516.34 crore in schemes under DMK regime, Minister launches Arignar Anna Bicycle Race.
Schemes worth ₹2,516.34 crore from the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) have been provided for Salem district during the past three and a half years of the DMK regime, Minister for Tourism R. Rajendran said on Saturday.
The Minister officially launched the Arignar Anna Bicycle Race, organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium. The race featured three categories for male students: a 15 km race for those under 13 years, a 20 km race for students aged 15 and above, and a 20 km race for students under 17 years old. For female students, the categories were a 10 km race for those under 13, a 15 km race for those under 15, and a 15 km race for those under 17.
Prizes for each category are awarded as follows: ₹5,000 for first place, ₹3,000 for second, ₹2,000 for third, and ₹250 each for students finishing in fourth to tenth place.
Speaking to the reporters, Mr. Rajendran said that the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) had undertaken 78,159 projects valued at ₹2,516.34 crore across 20 panchayat unions in the district over the past three and a half years. These projects include roads, streetlights, drinking water supply, and other infrastructure. Out of these, 57,166 projects have been completed, while work on the remaining 20,993 is still ongoing.
