
SC appoints former Punjab and Haryana HC judge to monitor Lakhimpur Kheri violence case

The Supreme Court has appointed a former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge to monitor the probe into the Lakhimpur violence incident.
The Supreme Court has appointed Rakesh Kumar Jain, a former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge, to monitor the investigation into the Lakhimpur violence incident that claimed the lives of eight people, including four farmers.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana said Rakesh Jain will monitor the investigation to ensure transparency and fairness in the case.

A prominent seer, Pranavananda Swamiji, alleged that mutts backing Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to take over the top post were denied any allocation in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. He reiterated his support for Shivakumar to take over as the chief minister.
